Martyrs

There are two great errors that Christians tend to fall into:

One is to confuse boldness with brashness. To be so smug and confident that we become insensitive jerks. This is obviously wrong.

But there is an equally grave error: Being so “nice” that we confuse love with license. We sacrifice truth on the altar of tolerance and acceptance of sin.

The balance is a hard one. 1 Timothy 6:11 says to “pursue godliness, love, and gentleness”, and yet in the very next verse it says “fight the good fight”. There are times when the most loving thing is to pick up a sword and battle the dragon.

Self-righteousness is a sin, but cowardice is also damnable (Revelation 21:8). Lord, please help us to avoid both errors.
