The “detrans” movement is full of heartbreaking stories of young people (often teenagers) who underwent irreversible body mutilation surgeries only to then grow up, stabilize as adults, and revert back to their birth gender. They now must live with permanently damaged bodies and lifelong regret.

It’s not just anecdotal. Oxford recently released an extensive study of over 100,000 transgender patients who underwent gender-affirming surgery. They found that "those undergoing surgery were at significantly higher risk for depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and substance use disorders than those without surgery". Also, "Gender affirming surgery...is associated with increased risk of mental health issues".
